Product Deep Dive

The Reflector Film is the unsung hero of the backlight unit, playing a simple yet vital role in maximizing efficiency. Placed at the very back of the backlight assembly, behind the Light Guide Plate, its sole purpose is to capture any light that might escape in the wrong direction and redirect it back towards the viewer. Light is emitted from the LEDs in multiple directions, and some of it travels downwards, away from the LGP. Furthermore, as light is recycled by other components like the prism sheets, it is sent back into the backlight unit. Without a reflector, this light would be absorbed by the module's casing and wasted as heat. The reflector film, typically a white sheet with very high diffuse reflectivity (often over 97%), acts as a mirror, ensuring this stray light is bounced back into the LGP and has another opportunity to be guided towards the display screen. This recycling process is fundamental to the efficiency of modern LCDs. By preventing light loss, the reflector film helps to increase the overall brightness of the display without requiring any additional power. It contributes to a more energy-efficient product and can also help in achieving better light uniformity. TECHWON sources high-quality reflector films that offer superior reflectivity and durability, resisting yellowing or degradation over time even when exposed to the heat and light within the backlight unit. This ensures consistent performance and longevity for the final display product.
